In 1947, George Norgan, a successful Vancouver business with roots in Palmerston, recognized the lack of leisure opportunities in his hometown. He addressed this situation with a personal donation of $50,000 for the construction of a movie theatre, the Norgan Theatre which bears his name. The Theatre opened August 18, 1947 with 5,000 people attending various events. In September 2012, the Norgan underwent some additional renovations and is now equipped with a high-definition digital projector; producing better quality image for movie-goers. The Norgan Theatre also hosts a variety of special performances including: the monthly film festival, comedy nights, concerts and seminars.
